Recommended BIOS Upgrade for Intel NUCs
Intel has released a TPM Firmware update to address a recent security advisory (INTEL-SA-00104). Intel recommends updating the BIOS on Intel NUCs to mitigate this security vulnerability. The BIOS update is available for download from the Intel Driver and Support Assistant.
Steps to Upgrade Intel NUC BIOS
- Download the BIOS update file from the Intel Driver and Support Assistant.
- Extract the BIOS update file to a USB drive.
- Insert the USB drive into the Intel NUC.
- Restart the Intel NUC and press F7 during startup to enter the BIOS setup menu.
- Navigate to the "Update" tab.
- Select the BIOS update file from the USB drive.
- Click "Update BIOS" and follow the on-screen instructions.
Note: Clearing TPM Data
The "Clear Secure Boot Data" option in the BIOS is not the correct method to clear the TPM. To clear the TPM, use the "Reset TPM" option in the BIOS.
Additional Notes
- The BIOS update process may take several minutes to complete.
- Do not interrupt the BIOS update process as it may cause damage to the system.
- Once the BIOS update is complete, restart the system and verify that the TPM Firmware is up to date.
