Candice Patricia Bergen was born on May 9, 1946, in Los Angeles, California. The daughter of famed ventriloquist Edgar Bergen and actress Frances Bergen, she began her career as a model before transitioning to acting.

Bergen has won numerous awards for her performances, including five Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. She is best known for her roles as Murphy Brown and Shirley Schmidt in the television series Murphy Brown and Boston Legal, respectively.
